How drones are taking over our rooftops and skies

2023-05-24

  • Abstract: The development of science and technology is getting faster and faster, and Moore's Law has been gradually broken. N years later, our sky may be a different scene because of the "invasion" of drones! Whether you believe it or not, the trend of drones in the future will be more exciting, so how will drones occupy our roofs and skies?

In 2014 , the concept of cargo drones began to ferment around the world. Although we cannot see the prospects of these new devices shining in the short term, if the future logistics industry wants to achieve efficient, accurate and fast transportation, cargo drones will definitely be one of the development directions of future transportation tools.

As the streets become more and more crowded, express parcels will either land from the sky or travel through sewers. As far as we can imagine, it is more convenient to go up to the sky than down to the ground. Moreover, drones that use electricity are more environmentally friendly than fuel trucks. Of course, faster and faster is what people require from express delivery companies. According to Bezos, through drones, Amazon's R&D team can reduce the delivery time for  VIP  members from the current  one  hour to half an hour. Is there a cooler shopping experience than this ?

In addition to being an urban aerial solution, in remote and sparsely populated areas without any mature road systems, drones can build a small route network connecting these places to the outside world, opening up a road to the sky.

For most urban residents, broadband Internet is like electricity and water, and is often taken for granted. However, this is not the case. Only one-third of the world's population can use the Internet, and the other two-thirds are still outside the Internet. Some of them are unwilling to go online, but more of them want to go online but cannot.

If we want to let the other two-thirds of the world share the convenience of the Internet era, we may have to aim high. At present, Google and Facebook  have proposed ideas in this regard, hoping to use drones to provide Internet access services from the air in the future. These ideas present a clear thread - to allow every corner of the earth to access the Internet, drones are undoubtedly an important means to achieve this vision. If the aerial network set up by drones can be successfully operated, then we will no longer be science fiction in the Sahara Desert, the Pacific Ocean, and Mount Everest.

In this era of big data, drones can be seen as flying sensors that extend human vision and perception into the air, bringing human understanding of the physical world, such as farmland, power grids, and mines, to a whole new level. They can perform tasks instead of humans and transmit live video back, based on which we can make decisions.

Micro drones inspect traffic, drones are launched for aerial patrols to check pollution, and drones are used to inspect power lines You can see such news every day. From the full-screen reports on drone applications, it is not difficult to see that as an intelligent eye in the sky, drones are also one of the ways they invade our lives.

When photographers encounter drones, they can capture beauty that is beyond the reach of the naked eye when journalists encounter drones, they can explore new reporting perspectives when extreme sports enthusiasts encounter drones, they can take selfies of every wonderful moment. Aerial photography is undoubtedly the best way to shoot movies, television, and news because it can provide an irreplaceable perspective. In the aerial photography market, the combination of drones and cameras is "occupying" our skies in full swing.

When drones and virtual reality technology are closely combined, things really get crazy. By tying  the Oculus Rift  to a drone and outputting it through  HDMI  , we can experience the world from the drone's perspective, flying over turbulent rivers, active volcanoes, and experiencing magnificent scenery that we can't normally experience.

With the advancement of technology, drones will be able to do more and more things. Although there are constant controversies surrounding this new technology, all developments show that it will eventually become popular.
